I’ve been noticing a lot of Facebook — and Tumblr — posts that are really stupid. The ones I’m talking about are the “like this photo/status to support the child with ______ disease, and ______ corporation will donate $1” This is unbelievably stupid. First off, even if that company would donate that money, they shouldn’t base how much they donate on how many fucking likes they get on Facebook. Or reblogs they got on Tumblr. That is completely the wrong way to go about donating money to a certain cause. Secondly, chances are, they DON’T ACTUALLY DONATE!!! Yeah! They don’t! Most of the time, it’s just some stupid attention whore that put that there so they could get someone to look at the rest of their photos. It really fucking bothers me that society believes they can help with these stupid causes with a Facebook “like” or a reblog. I don’t know if it’s just the way people are thinking these days or if I’m just realizing it now that I’m getting older. I honestly believe the newer generation (aka my generation) has no fucking idea what it’s like to ACTUALLY do something to help someone. Which is another point; WHY the FUCK do you choose these stupid meaningless things to spread awareness about and “like” or reblog? It’s ONE fucking person with that disease/condition/living environment. If you are going to throw around your “likes” believing you can change the world, do it for something that will benefit more than one person, and do it for a company that has credibility. Don’t do it for some random attention whore on Facebook or Tumblr. I can SORT OF see the point behind the Kony thing, but even that it really stupid. Most people can’t even fucking point out where Uganda is on an African map. You think you’re cool for going with the crowd and doing something that you think is right, when really you’re just a fucking sheep. If you really want to have a chance at helping with a cause, go out and fucking volunteer, vote, or become otherwise politically active. Oh and praying doesn’t help either. Get off your ass, religion (cough christians cough).
Sorry for the unpopular opinion, but it has just been really annoying me lately. Feel free to hate.
